This is from the Ministry of Community and Social Services Website. There is a neat video at the site as well.

As of May 14, 2008, Ontario has new adoption information disclosure legislation that will allow adopted adults and birth parents to get information from birth and adoption records. The new legislation affects adoptions that were registered in Ontario.

As of September 1, 2008, adopted adults and birth parents can now file disclosure vetoes if the adoption order was made before September 1, 2008.

As of June 1, 2009 adopted adults will be able to apply for copies of adoption orders and birth registrations and birth parents will be able to apply for information from these documents.

This gap in time will give adopted adults and birth parents time to apply for disclosure vetoes before adoption records are made available.
